50% of Proceeds to benefit cancer research and treatment

With the 2010 baseball season underway, The Remains are releasing a new song, “Monbo Time,” that is meant, in part, to be a tribute to the 1960s Red Sox pitching ace, Bill Monbouquette. In support of Monbouquette’s battle against leukemia, and Remains keyboard player Bill Briggs’ recent bout with bladder cancer, The Remains, and their co-lyricists, have pledged to donate 50% of the revenues they receive to cancer research and treatment.

David Levin, a New York City public school teacher who grew up in the Boston area and is a diehard Red Sox fan, and Fred Cantor, who produced the stage musical, “All Good Things,” and the documentary, “America’s Lost Band,” both about The Remains, collaborated with members of The Remains, Barry Tashian and Vern Miller in writing “Monbo Time.”

“Monbo Time” is intended to capture several aspects of a Red Sox fan’s experience, ranging from going to Fenway Park for the first time, to the passage of time from the perspective of a longtime fan.

The song will be available on iTunes and other online outlets.

Buy online April 21, 2010 at cdbaby.com.

AMERICA’S LOST BAND, the award winning documentary about The Remains, was screened July 16, 2009 at the Don’t Knock The Rock Film Festival. The screening was at the Silent Movie Theater, 611 N. Fairfax, in Los Angeles. There was a full house and, following the film, a Q + A with two members of The Remains; Barry Tashian and Bill Briggs. Also in attendance were Director, Michael Stich, and Producer, Fred Cantor who both shared their thoughts with the audience. Refreshments were served on the veranda and a spirited social event was enjoyed by all. The Remains were reunited with long lost friends, such as Billy Vera (writer of Don’t Look Back), Ed Freeman (road manager and photographer on The Beatles’ tour 66), and Leah Sdoucos, original booking agent for The Remains, among others.

I was honored and thrilled to attend the world premiere of the documentary
film about The Remains, AMERICA’S LOST BAND. All four Remains were present for the initial screening at the Boston Film Festival. It was a very special experience for us. We wholeheartedly appreciated the interest and enthusiasm of the crowd, nearly two-hundred strong.

The film is excellent, and it’s a new experience seeing ourselves on the big screen. We performed three songs live, “unplugged”, after the film, and the entire audience gave us a standing ovation!
Later, in the lobby, there was video recording, autograph signing and and a “whole ‘lotta buzzin’” all around. Thanks to all who came. —Barry Tashian, The Remains

I’m pleased to learn from producer, Fred Cantor, that several more favorable reviews have come in and here is a sample of what they said:

“AMERICA’S LOST BAND is a labor of love and as such is a breath of fresh air. Where as most of the documentaries and books about 60′s rock ‘n’ roll bands are chock full of overdoses, lawsuits, and long festering resentments, ALB is a charming, heartwarming story about four close friends who enjoy making great rock ‘n’ roll together more today than ever before.” —Nancy Foster, MUSIC BUSINESS MONTHLY

“This isn’t THE MC5: A TRUE TESTIMONIAL or THE FILTH & THE FURY, but it’s still a noble effort and labor of love by the filmmaker and producer about a most deserving subject. Definitely worth seeing.” —Holly Daisun-Datsun, BOSTON GROUPIE NEWS, “Boston’s Original Punk Magazine.”

“A great documentary.” —Abby Kingston, SUFFOLK JOURNAL

The documentary film AMERICA’S LOST BAND, the story of The Remains, will have it’s World Premiere at the Boston Film Festival on Sunday, September 14th at 4PM. The screening location is as follows:

 The Kendall Square Cinema
One Kendall Sq.
Cambridge, MA 02139.

Members of The Remains will be on hand to answer questions after the film,
and also to perform several songs, “unplugged”. The documentary is
directed by Emmy Award winner Michael Stich, and produced by Fred Cantor.

The official schedule/ticket info should be posted at bostonfilmfestival.org around September 3rd.

The first Review of AMERICA’S LOST BAND has been published at 60sgarageband.com and it’s two thumbs up. It states, in part: “AMERICA’S LOST BAND does an excellent job of proving…without question, The Remains were — indeed still are — very significant players in rock’s storied history…the closing montage of a present- day Remains’ concert interspersed with black and white clips of each member from the Hullabaloo performance provides
a touching, sentimental and more than fitting denoument to a band, and a film, that very ably demonstrates the true power of music.”

“Had these Boston bad boys stuck it out beyond their 1966 debut, we might today be calling them — and not the Stones — the World’s Greatest Rock N’ Roll band.” -Mark Kemp, Paste Magazine

Boston is a most appropriate city for the Premiere because The Remains band was born in Boston and was galvanized while playing concerts, colleges, clubs and fraternity parties throughout Boston and all six New England states during the mid Sixties. It’s very exciting and we hope to see many of you at the screening.

For more information about the film, please contact Fred Cantor at canfre@yahoo.com.
