In the 1960s, The Remains, who started out at Boston University, signed a record deal with Epic Records, performed on the popular NBC show, “Hullabaloo,” played on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” and opened for the Beatles’ last-ever tour, before breaking up right after that 1966 tour.

In the past decade, The Remains re-united to record their first album in 36 years, toured Europe to great acclaim, were the subject of a stage musical in New York City, “All Good Things,” and, most recently, saw their story made into a documentary film, “America’s Lost Band.”

On December 5, The Remains will be returning to their roots to be inducted into the Boston Music Awards Hall of Fame. Past honorees include such legends as Carly Simon.

The band, featuring the original quartet of Barry Tashian on vocals and lead guitar, Vern Miller on bass guitar, Bill Briggs on keyboard, and Chip Damiani on drums, will perform at the ceremonies, to be held at the Liberty Hotel in downtown Boston. Their set will include favorites such as “Why Do I Cry” and “Don’t Look Back.”

“All of us consider it a privilege and an honor to be inducted,” said Tashian.

In the June 2007 issue of Paste Magazine, well-known rock journalist, Mark Kemp, dubbed The Remains “America’s greatest lost band.”

Apologies to those who ventured out to see
The Remains perform at the Woodstock Fair
on Friday, Sept 3rd at 6:00PM.
Due to the hurricane threat,
we were re-scheduled for noon that day.
The Hartford Courant ran an announcement,
and we tried to notify as many people as possible,
but it was impossible to contact everyone.
So, again, we apologize for the mix-up to those
who drove distances to see The Remains.
These things happen when hurricanes
approach! We hope to get back to the
CT, MA, RI area again soon!
-Thank you, Barry Tashian, The Remains

50% of Proceeds to benefit cancer research and treatment

With the 2010 baseball season underway, The Remains are releasing a new song, “Monbo Time,” that is meant, in part, to be a tribute to the 1960s Red Sox pitching ace, Bill Monbouquette. In support of Monbouquette’s battle against leukemia, and Remains keyboard player Bill Briggs’ recent bout with bladder cancer, The Remains, and their co-lyricists, have pledged to donate 50% of the revenues they receive to cancer research and treatment.

David Levin, a New York City public school teacher who grew up in the Boston area and is a diehard Red Sox fan, and Fred Cantor, who produced the stage musical, “All Good Things,” and the documentary, “America’s Lost Band,” both about The Remains, collaborated with members of The Remains, Barry Tashian and Vern Miller in writing “Monbo Time.”

“Monbo Time” is intended to capture several aspects of a Red Sox fan’s experience, ranging from going to Fenway Park for the first time, to the passage of time from the perspective of a longtime fan.

The song will be available on iTunes and other online outlets.

Buy online April 21, 2010 at cdbaby.com.

AMERICA’S LOST BAND, the award winning documentary about The Remains, was screened July 16, 2009 at the Don’t Knock The Rock Film Festival. The screening was at the Silent Movie Theater, 611 N. Fairfax, in Los Angeles. There was a full house and, following the film, a Q + A with two members of The Remains; Barry Tashian and Bill Briggs. Also in attendance were Director, Michael Stich, and Producer, Fred Cantor who both shared their thoughts with the audience. Refreshments were served on the veranda and a spirited social event was enjoyed by all. The Remains were reunited with long lost friends, such as Billy Vera (writer of Don’t Look Back), Ed Freeman (road manager and photographer on The Beatles’ tour 66), and Leah Sdoucos, original booking agent for The Remains, among others.
